Lamb to slaughter

Mary Maloney was a diligent housewife who was pregnant.
Every night, she waits (please check carefully) excitedly for her husband , Patrick, to return from his job at
the police station. This night however, he was behaving unusually. (important: what is the bad news?) After hearing the bad news, Mary was so shocked that she was bewildered.
In a daze, she walked towards the freezer and took out the lamb leg.
Without warning, she hit the back of Patrick's head, killing him.
Fearing that her child would have to suffer for her crimes, she planned her alibi.
She went to cooked the lamb leg and headed to the grocery store to buy some food for "Patrick's supper".
